The Facebook Meta group presented the VR glasses aimed at professional users. For CEO Zuckerberg, the success of the device is critical.
Meta unveiled its Quest Pro virtual and mixed reality headset. The company wants the device from October 25 to 1,499
sell dollars. Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg said that the merging of the physical and digital worlds makes completely new conceivable applications possible.
The launch is an important step for Zuckerberg, who last year announced plans for the device, then called Project Cambria. By renaming his company from Facebook to Meta, Zuckerberg has made it clear what goal he wants to pursue in the future: the development of a 3D world known as the Metaverse.
The Quest Pro offers numerous improvements over its predecessor, the Quest 2. Most notable is an outward facing camera that records the user’s surroundings and allows virtual objects to be inserted into the real world.
For the first time, the Meta VR goggles are equipped with tracking sensors. This allows you to transfer the user’s eye movements and facial expressions into the virtual world.
Unlike the Meta Quest 2, the glasses are aimed primarily at professional users who wish to use the device for work. It could be designers and architects, for example, who want to use glasses to present their work in virtual places before it is completed.
Meta offers its platforms and services for professional meetings in the virtual world. A partnership with Microsoft also aims to make virtual versions of the Word, Outlook and Teams programs available.
Even before the presentation of the VR glasses last night, it was announced that Meta Quest Pro will not be sold in Germany. This was reported by “Handelsblatt”, quoting a spokesperson for the Facebook group. The sales block applies to all VR devices, including the new headset, he said.
Meta had taken all VR glasses from the German market in 2020. At that time, the company had reacted to a procedure by the Federal Cartel Office. He complained that a Facebook account was absolutely necessary when using the VR glasses, so he opened an abuse procedure.
Meta has now revoked the account requirements during registration. Users can create a meta account with an email address. However, the group maintained the stop of sales in Germany.
The Meta Quest Pro is just one of four planned VR goggles the company plans to release by 2024. CEO Zuckerberg sees the future of the internet in his metaverse, for which the goggles represent access.
