Yankees win Game 1 of ALDS thanks to homers from Harrison Bader and Anthony Rizzo

Though Cleveland struck first, the New York Yankees managed to put up four unanswered runs in Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series to defeat the Guardians at home Monday night.

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole was credited with the win thanks to his eight strikeouts, one walk and just one earned run over six and a half innings. Cleveland’s Cal Quantrill was awarded the loss after pitching five innings that resulted in only five strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs.

After the Guardians’ Steven Kwan hit a solo home run in the top of the third, the Yankees responded immediately with a home run from Harrison Bader in the bottom half of the same inning.

They followed that up with a Jose Trevino sac fly to score Isaiah Kiner-Falefa in the fifth goal and a two-barrel Anthony Rizzo home run in the sixth for good measure.

This is an evolving story. There’s more to come.
