USMNT and Leeds star Brenden Aaronson names Lionel Messi as his favorite sportsman

The American Brenden Aaronson shared insights into his preferences with the fans in a short Q&A.

The Leeds midfielder took some time off from World Cup preparations with Gregg Berhalter’s squad suffering a hit on Wednesday morning, with England’s Harry Kane not excluded to reveal some personal details including his favorite athlete, team and music.

The 22-year-old has impressed since joining the English Premier League from Red Bull Salzburg in a $30m deal in the summer.

Aaronson joined fellow countryman Jesse Marsch in the north of England after his early days with the Philadelphia Union.

The team clearly still holds a place in his heart as he named his boyhood club his favorites in America.

He then chose seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, whose Argentina team suffered a shock defeat by Saudi Arabia at Tuesday’s World Cup, as the athlete he likes the most.

The USMNT star, 25, from Medford, New Jersey, chose Bruce Springsteen over Jon Bon Jovi when asked to choose between the music legends from his part of the world.

As for his current favorite artist, Aaronson singled out Drake and failed to pick his favorite song, stating, “My favorite song is the whole album with Drake.”

The USMNT hopes Aaronson’s No. 1 music artist doesn’t bump into the team.

There’s an internet theory known as the “Drake Curse” that the rapper is behind the downfall of several form sites and athletes around the world.

After players met with Drake before games, PSG, Arsenal, Anthony Joshua and Conor McGregor suffered high-profile defeats in 2018-19.

Roma have hilariously banned any players from taking a picture with Drake after PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa fell victim to the ‘Drake curse’.

Aaronson played in the USA’s 1-1 draw with Wales in their opening Group B game on Monday and the team are now gearing up for Friday’s crucial showdown with England in Qatar.
