Tom Brady trains with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite reports he’s taking every Wednesday off

Tom Brady trained with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, despite initial reports the star quarterback would take veteran days off each week.

After the Bucs’ win in Week 1, it was reported that the three-time MVP would be taking every Wednesday off as Veteran’s Day for personal and recreation reasons.

However, the 45-year-old’s new schedule didn’t last long when he reported for duty at the Tampa Bay facilities on Wednesday.

Coach Todd Bowles had confirmed Brady would take every Wednesday off from practice but stated it was a weekly maintenance day.

That suggested Brady wasn’t exactly going to relax. This means that he will still work, he just won’t participate in training.

And Bowles announced that Brady won’t be the only player receiving maintenance days, as receiver Chris Godwin doesn’t practice on Thursdays and receiver Mike Evans and linebacker Lavonte David don’t practice on Fridays.

‘It is not just [Brady]’ Bowles said. “We have fixed days off after the games.”

Brady defended the decision to take a weekly day off earlier this week as he said he earned it based on his 23-year career.

“The fact that I’ve worked weekends for the last 23 years means I deserve one day off a week, so maybe I’m thinking, and I don’t know if it’s Wednesday, but I have Tuesdays off,” Brady said on his Let’s go podcasts. ‘That’s probably good enough for me.’

Tampa Coach Bowles also stressed the importance of maintenance day and veteran rest.

“For most players, it’s important,” Bowles said, according to NFL Network. “But I think if you play a certain amount of time in the league and prepare in a certain way, there’s no need to practice that guy all the time.

“You will practice, but you will not practice all the time. You’ll get a day off here and there because it’s a long season.”

The news of Brady’s day off came after he spoke about the toll Week 1 of the 2022-23 season had taken on his 45-year-old body.

“When you’re 45, your body changes a lot. So what am I dealing with now? I woke up today and said, “Holy shit, there were a few hits,” Brady said on his podcast.

“You look at your arm and you’ve got bruises, you’ve got cuts and you’re like, ‘OK, how much longer do I want to make this commitment?

“And I’ve obviously committed for this year and everything will be the same as always – continuing to evaluate all these different aspects of playing.

“I think for me I’ll just take it day by day and evaluate it when it comes.”

Brady is known to occasionally take Thursdays off during the regular season, but he had not previously committed to taking a day off each week.

However, the star was missing for 11 days during the pre-season and it was later revealed he had been excused from training camp for personal reasons.

The absence has been followed by ongoing speculation about the status of his marriage to supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

Brady and Bundchen were reported to be “living apart” and resolving warlike issues, sources close to the couple told CNN.

The Brazilian model is said to be unhappy with the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s decision not to retire earlier this year.

Speaking to Elle magazine for their October issue, she expressed a desire to rejuvenate her career and the frustration that comes with Brady continuing his.

“I feel very fulfilled as a mother and as a wife. And now it’s my turn.”
