The curse is broken! Rapper Drake ends his bad luck at gambling

Multimillionaire rap superstar Drake ended his ill-fated high-stakes gambling streak after Israel Adesanya’s victory won a $1 million (£826,000) bet previously described as “easy” money.

The Nigerian-born UFC Middleweight Champion defeated Jared Cannonier in a largely one-sided bout in which Adesanya earned a unanimous decision victory.

Drake would have been one of the most relieved supporters after cashing in the high stakes bet that ended his gambling curse after a disastrous losing streak.

The Canadian superstar has a reported net worth in excess of $250 million, so losing a seven-figure bet for the 35-year-old is likely more of a hindrance than a disaster.

Bucking the underdog trend, Drake upped the stakes and endorsed hot favorite Adesanya, having previously lost $275,000 to Jorge Masvidal and $550,000 to Justin Gaethje.

He added pressure by telling Adesanya in a video call the day before about the bet he had made, which he claimed the sum was a “light” fee.

However, Adesanya was visibly comfortable entering the octagon as he dominated his opponent from start to finish, landing 116 significant punches on his way to victory.

In the social media video between the two A-list celebrities, Drake says:

“You know I’ve invested an easy million. I had to put a light mill on my brother.

‘Return on investment is a lock. I just want to wish you the best of luck.’

Drake’s UFC gambling hoodoo may be broken, but that probably won’t stop the rapper from continuing to up the ante at the next big sporting event.

He is also known to have a preference for football and NFL, having previously bet $1.25 million on the Super Bowl.
