Shoya Nakajima is sent off after just 20 seconds in his Antalyaspor debut

Japan international Shoya Nakajima made a nightmare debut for Antalyaspor on Saturday when he was shown a red card just 20 seconds after coming on.

Nakajima completed his move from Porto to Antaylaspor earlier this month on a two-year deal. After the Turkish side were trailing 1-0 to Adana Demirspor in the league game, Nakajima was summoned by his manager and came on in the 59th minute to try to turn the game in his team’s favour.

He was obviously eager to engage and without even getting a touch, he slid in to try to regain the ball on the sidelines.

He missed the ball and left his opponent huddled on the ground, after which the referee immediately rushed to him and showed him a yellow card.

It looked like Nakajima might get away with his ugly looking challenge, but the referee was then ordered by the VAR official to check the pitchside monitor.

Replays showed that Nakajima’s tackle came too late and he caught his opponent with his cleats on the ankle, leaving the referee little choice but to reverse his decision and upgrade to a red card.

Nakajima initially greeted the decision with a smile, but then seemed shocked when his debut was abruptly ended.

The 28-year-old’s family were in the crowd to watch him play and they were stunned that everything had gone wrong for the striker in a matter of seconds.

Nakajima’s mother was particularly upset and held a handkerchief to her face to wipe away tears while the rest of his family looked on in disbelief.

Nakajima was actually the third player sent off that night. Team-mate Soner Aydogdu also had an early shower following an eighth-minute red card, while Adana Demirspor’s Yaroslav Rakitskyi received his marching orders six minutes from half-time.

Following Nakajima’s dismissal, the evening grew worse for Antalyaspor as they conceded two goals in the final 15 minutes en route to a 3-0 defeat.

Adana Demirspor now leads the table with 16 points after seven games, while Antalyaspor sits in 13th place after losing five of their first seven games and without the suspended Nakajima.
