Real Madrid star Vinicius Jnr vows to move on with dance celebrations after racial slurs

Vinicius Jr. has vowed to keep dancing during his goal celebrations despite being targeted with racial slurs by an agent in Spain.

Pedro Bravo – the president of the Spanish Agents Association – urged Vinicius Jr to “stop playing the monkey” after Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Mallorca.

Bravo made the comment during an appearance on the controversial TV show El Chiringuito, before later retracting his statement.

Outraged that dancing was “criminalized” by a character on TV, Vinicius Jr. released a video saying he has no plans to quit in the face of abuse.

“They say that luck gets in the way,” Vinicius said in a video posted on social media.

“The luck of a victorious black Brazilian in Europe is much more disturbing.

“But my will to win, my smile and the sparkle in my eyes are much greater.

“You can’t even imagine that. I was the victim of a xenophobic and racist comment. But none of that started yesterday.’

He added: “Weeks ago they started criminalizing my dances. Dances that aren’t mine.

“They belong to Ronaldinho, Neymar, [Lucas] paqueta, [Antoine] Griezmann, Joao Felix, Matheus Cunha… they belong to Brazilian funk and samba artists, reggaeton singers and black Americans.

“These are dances to celebrate the cultural diversity of the world. Accept it, respect it. I will not stop.’

In their own statement, Real Madrid threatened that they would take legal action against anyone who made racist or abusive remarks towards any of their players.

“Real Madrid CF rejects all kinds of racist and xenophobic statements and behavior related to football, sport and life in general, like the regrettable and unfortunate comments made against our player Vinicius Junior in the last few hours,” said the Spanish giants into a statement.

“Real Madrid would like to show all their love and support to Vinicius Junior, a player who understands football as a way of life based on joy, respect and sportsmanship.

“Football, the most global sport there is, must be an example of values and coexistence.

“The club has instructed its legal department to take legal action against anyone using racist language towards our players.”

Many backed Vinicius Jr, not the least of which were Brazilian icons Neymar and Pele.

Bravo likened Vinicius Jr.’s behavior to that of a monkey after the Brazil winger performed his goal celebration dance against Mallorca on Sunday.

While on El Chringuito TV live, Bravo said: “They (Vinicius Jr.) have to respect the opponent.

“If you want to dance, go to the Sambadrome in Brazil. In Spain you have to respect rivals and stop playing the monkey.”

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar Jr. was quick to back the youngster’s flamboyant goal celebration.

He took to social media to post a picture of himself and Vinicius dancing on international duty with Brazil.

Neymar wrote in the accompanying caption: “Dribble, dance and be yourself happy with who you are! Go upstairs my friend, we’ll dance to your next destination.’

Pele also took to Twitter shortly after the incident to support Vinicius. He wrote: “Football is joy. it’s a dance It’s a real party.
