PSG have held talks with Barcelona this summer to sign star winger Ousmane Dembele, Luis Campos reveals

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele because he didn’t fit into the French champions’ system.

Director Luis Campos has revealed that PSG were keen to lure the French star to the Parc de Princes this summer and are organizing negotiations with Barcelona.

Dembele was signed by the Spanish giants from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for a flat fee of £136million.

Corresponding Fabrizio RomanoThe PSG boss holds Dembele in high esteem and would ‘love to’ bring him to Paris in the near future.

Campos said: “We didn’t sign Dembele because he’s a winger and we play with a different system.

“I love Dembele, he’s great but we had different plans.”

An injury has derailed the Barcelona winger’s career at the Nou Camp since his blockbuster arrival five years ago.

Dembele was sidelined for most of 2019-20 with a series of hamstring tears and found himself back on the treatment table early last season with a knee injury.

The Frenchman, who started this season with two goals and four assists in eight games in all competitions, is hoping to stay injury-free ahead of a long and disruptive season for Barcelona.
