A cheeky A-League fan captured the moment he ran onto the pitch at the Allianz Stadium to hug former Premier League star Nani – with the youngster claiming he was “beaten up by security” afterwards .
Melbourne Victory enjoyed a dramatic 3-2 away win over Sydney on Saturday night, with Portuguese legend Nani providing a fine assist to help his side win in front of almost 22,000 fans.
One of those fans decided he wanted to hug the new A-League figurehead after the game was over and took a video of himself doing it.
In a clip posted by “mohamedhadi_” on TikTok, titled “Bro I got beat up in the security room,” the youngster says, “Guys I’m going to run onto the field. Look at that’.
He is then seen jumping over the barrier and running across the pitch towards Nani who was doing a live TV interview.
Mohamed shouts: “Nani! Nani! I love you, Nani!’ and hugs the soccer star.
Nani can be seen laughing during the encounter and hugging the boy as he awkwardly tries to continue his interview.
Seconds later, security arrives and packs away the young football fan, and the video ends abruptly.
The clip has been viewed more than a million times and although it mentions violence by security forces in the title, Mohamed doesn’t further mention it on the page or in the comments.
Nani certainly had no problem with the overzealous fan, he told the press afterwards.
“It was nice to see the kids running onto the field,” he said.
“The security doesn’t like it, but that’s the passion of the game. When you see that, we have to put ourselves in that position because we’ve all been like that.
“One day we were kids and we wanted to do that too. I hope these children are happy.”
The 35-year-old added that he was delighted with the public attention he was getting in his first few months in Australia.
“I like the environment here. People say there is no football culture here – but that’s not true,” he said.
“Everywhere I go, everywhere I go, people recognize me, people ask for photos and it’s beautiful.
