Norwich sporting director Webber is emerging as a shock target for Chelsea

Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber is a shock candidate to join Chelsea’s revolution.

The 38-year-old was targeted by the Blues as part of their reorganization after being taken over by Todd Boehly.

Webber has been at Carrow Road since 2017 and has helped them to two league titles but their two Premier League campaigns ended in miserable failure.

He has been criticized amid an uneasy relationship with fans who questioned his commitment to the Canary Islands after announcing earlier this year he had started training to climb Mount Everest.

Webber helped improve the Canaries’ training facilities and the club earned new investment last month when Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio joined the board.

Webber would work under Christopher Vivell, who is expected to join Chelsea as technical director. Vivell was Chelsea’s top target to replace Petr Cech, who gave up his role as technical director in the summer.

Chelsea are said to have been in talks for some time with Vivell, who was surprisingly sacked from his director role at RB Leipzig.

Chelsea’s new owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali reportedly want to build a multi-club model at Stamford Bridge. And Vivell’s expected appointment will boost that ambition given his experience of similar goals in the Red Bull setup.

Webber is on the list at Chelsea as they look for a sporting director after RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund ultimately turned down the chance to move to west London.

Freund had been expected to make the Chelsea move only to make a change of heart after Salzburg persuaded him to stay in place.
