NFL: 49ers QB Trey Lance is towed after brutal hit as Jimmy Garoppolo fills in for San Francisco

San Francisco starting quarterback Trey Lance broke his ankle in the 27-7 win over Seattle, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after the game.

Shanahan announced his young star will have surgery tomorrow after his season ends, according to the 49ers.

The 22-year-old was pulled off the field in a cart after a big hit in the first quarter of their NFC West duel against the Seahawks.

Lance, who was named a starter during training camp, briefly lay down on the turf before being helped off the field.

Later, his right leg was placed in an aerial cast as he was carried off the field, with both teammates and opponents alike going to show their support. reports it turned out that he may have suffered a fractured ankle or a dislocation.

Seattle linebacker Cody Barton ferociously beat Lance with a two-and-eight just outside the red zone.

The third overall winner of 2021 led a zone read play at center with 2:33 minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

He was hit at the 19-yard line by Barton and Bryan Mone, who hit the former North Dakota State man solidly.

Jimmy Garoppolo, who was the starter from 2017-2021, returned to his preferred position, leading the 49ers to a touchdown on his second drive.

San Francisco are currently in control against a Seattle team that had hoped to carry the momentum from Monday night’s shock win over Denver.

The 49ers led 3-0 when Lance left the game before Garoppolo helped extend their lead beyond two points.

Seattle is 20-0 behind its division rival at halftime.

Lance finished the game 2-of-3 for 30 yards, with you carrying Carries for 13 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, Garoppolo finished the first half on 8-of-11 for 106 yards and a touchdown.
