Martin Dubravka praises ‘pleasant’ Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United welcome after loan

Manchester United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has praised Cristiano Ronaldo for welcoming the Slovakian’s move to the club.

Dubravka joined United on loan from Newcastle in the summer transfer window and has since played as a replacement for David De Gea.

Speaking to Sport on ChronicleLive, Dubravka said it was “pleasant” to speak to the five-time Ballon D’Or winner, who has taken an interest in his life following his transfer.

“We had the opportunity to talk to each other before training and then after training in the gym,” Dubravka said.

“He asked me about my family, if I’m staying in a hotel now and the usual things.

“He showed an interest in communication and started first. I didn’t want to look like a fan and go straight to him, but he was very comfortable talking to him about everything.’

“I’ve probably had most of my communication with him all day apart from Scott McTominay and Tom Heaton who are of course right next to me in the dressing room.”

Ronaldo tried to leave Manchester United in search of Champions League football in the summer but failed to leave the club.

The 37-year-old has started following an injury to Marcus Rashford in United’s last two games and manager Erik ten Hag is seemingly trying to bring Ronaldo back into his plans.

It has been suggested that former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel refused to sign Ronaldo because it would upset dressing room morale, a feat of which multiple reports suggest Ronaldo was guilty.

But the forward seems happier at United following the side’s upturn in form as the Red Devils are now fifth in the Premier League and Ronaldo is aiming for a run with the team.
