Paris Saint-Germain extended a two-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 after Lionel Messi’s early goal gave the French champions a 1-0 win at Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
Messi scored his fourth league goal of the season in the fifth minute to take Christophe Galtier’s side to 22 points from eight games.
Olympique de Marseille are second after a 1-1 home draw against Stade Rennais on Sunday.
Lyon, who have now lost their last three games, are sixth on 13 points.
After the game, PSG midfielder Vitinha told Prime Video that he was happy with the win but knows the team can improve.
“I’m happy with the result, but not with the performance.
We could play a better match, we can still improve, but the win is here. We need to control the game more, especially in the second half.
We had possession, but not enough chances for my taste. It was a good game nonetheless. We had to win and we did it.”
