Lionel Messi looks on coolly as ‘PSG fugitive’ Kylian Mbappe scores against Benfica

Lionel Messi showed little to no emotion in the stands as Kylian Mbappe converted his penalty in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw with Benfica on Tuesday night.

Mbappe, who now wants to leave PSG after shock reports from Spain, took the lead in the first half before Portugal fought back for part of the loot with a free-kick of their own after the break.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed on Tuesday that Mbappe’s relationship with PSG is “completely broken” and that the 23-year-old is now pursuing the exit door despite signing a lucrative £650,000-a-week deal with the French giants this summer.

Messi, whose rich streak was cut short by injury last week, was forced to sit in the stands alongside his wife Antonella at the Parc de Princes on Tuesday.

Despite smiling and chatting contentedly in the early stages, the Argentine’s expression seemed to change drastically when Mbappe converted PSG’s penalty in the 39th minute.

Blank-eyed, Messi stared at the pitch with piercing eyes while Antonella looked disinterested at her watch.

Summer contenders Real Madrid are leading the race for Mbappe in January alongside Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who has struggled for form earlier in the season.

The French superstar is believed to be unhappy with his current role at the club on the pitch and disagrees with Christophe Galtier’s decision to use him as the only centre-forward.

Rio Ferdinand slammed PSG for giving the striker too much ‘player power’ this summer and admitted it’s ‘hard to believe’ what Mbappe has a problem with.

The Manchester United legend also questioned why the world champion didn’t want to play alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.

“I think PSG will be disappointed with that, as a team-mate you will be because you know the negativity it brings,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“He’s not happy about what we’re hearing is he doesn’t want to play the position he’s being played in.

“Wayne Rooney hated being asked to play left wing in some games but you would never know because he would sacrifice himself for his teammates.

“If it’s going to take forever, I understand, but by the way, Kylian wakes up and plays with Neymar and Messi. I’m sure you would want that. It’s hard to believe he’s moaning about that.”
