Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Maury Wills has died at the age of 89

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Maury Wills has died aged 89.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers are saddened by the passing of Dodger legend Maury Wills,” the team said in a statement released Tuesday. “Our thoughts are with Wills’ family, teammates and friends.”

A cause of death was not announced.

Considered one of the greatest base runners in baseball history, Wills retired with 586 steals, which is still good enough for 20th all-time.

More importantly, the seven-time All-Star shortstop won three World Series with the Dodgers and was named National League MVP in 1962 over legends like Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, and teammates Tommy Davis and Don Drysdale.
