Christophe Galtier’s footage was caught on camera during PSG’s 1-1 draw with Benfica on Tuesday and seemed to suggest Kylian Mbappe would prefer to play on the right flank rather than up front.
Reports surfaced earlier Tuesday claiming Mbappe wanted to leave the French champions after feeling “betrayed” by the club’s owners just months after signing a lucrative new contract at PSG.
One of Mbappe’s complaints is believed to be the way he’s been used by Galtier this season after the pair fell out following PSG’s 0-0 draw with Reims on Saturday. The 23-year-old has played almost exclusively as a lone striker but would love to have a strike partner, as he does when playing alongside Olivier Giroud for France.
Mbappe posted an Instagram story with “#pivotgang” before deleting it later over the weekend when he made it clear to Galtier he wasn’t content playing alone up front.
Galtier’s notes have now given a clearer indication of how Mbappe believes he should fit into PSG’s team.
“Kylian pref (right)” were Galtier’s notes as the camera zoomed in on the PSG boss in the second half.
Galtier hasn’t made the utmost effort to cover up his notes and some fans have speculated he may have been pranking the French media following the latest reports on Mbappe’s future.
“Galtier plays a joke in front of the cameras with his notes: ‘Kylian’s preference (right’),” one fan wrote on Twitter, alongside a series of laughing emojis.
It is understood Mbappe has been promised by the club’s board of directors to bring in a new striker over the summer so he can play in his preferred position this year.
The Ligue 1 side have signed youngster Hugo Ekitike but he was used sparingly by Galtier, allowing Mbappe to stay ahead in the early weeks of the season.
This has left Mbappe unhappy and the striker also has a strained relationship with team-mate Neymar after the two fell out over who should take a penalty against Montpellier in August.
This has led to Mbappe telling PSG he wants to leave in the January transfer window but they don’t want to let him go.
The club have told Mbappe they won’t be allowed to join Real Madrid after they tried to sign him in the summer, only for the world champions to snub them and sign a new contract with PSG.
Despite the uncertainty about his future, Mbappe still started for PSG in the home game against Benfica.
He got into the scorer’s table after scoring a penalty in the first half, but Benfica equalized with a Joao Mario penalty of their own as the spoils were shared.
Both teams currently have eight points each in their group and are on track to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
