Arsenal legend Ian Wright has praised Granit Xhaka after his impressive performance in the 3-0 win over Brentford.
The Switzerland international has shone in the heart of the Arsenal team this season after landing a new role as a progressive midfielder.
Xhaka snagged his third assist of the season against the Bees with a superb pass for Gabriel Jesus’ header that put Arsenal two ahead.
Speaking on BBC Match of The Day, Wright praised Xhaka and admitted he was previously a critic of the midfielder.
“For me, Granit Xhaka is a player that we finally see playing the way he does for Switzerland,” he said.
“He plays in a position that suits him and plays more offensively. He plays with real authority and confidence.
“Lately he’s been able to find space and from there he can be really dangerous because for me he’s easily one of the best left-footed players in the Premier League.
“It’s a great cross for Jesus goal, it’s fantastic. He can do the defensive stuff too, he comes back and gets his foot in there.
“He set the pace for Arsenal from the ball. I’m very happy for him because I was one of his most outspoken critics. But now we are seeing the best of Granit Xhaka.”
Arsenal bounced back from the Manchester United defeat thanks to goals from William Saliba, Jesus and Fabio Vieira.
Mikel Arteta’s side will enter the international break at the top of the Premier League table after being temporarily overtaken by Manchester City and Tottenham on Saturday.
