Eric Bailly snubs Cristiano Ronaldo as he names Man Utd’s most impressive players

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has revealed that Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are two of the club’s players who have impressed him the most.

The Ivorian centre-back is currently on loan from the Red Devils to Ligue 1 side Marseille after spending five years at the club but still thinks highly of the players at Old Trafford.

However, while Bailly has played alongside some high profile players such as Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at the club, none of those three were named when asked who impressed him the most.

The 28-year-old chose forward duo Rashford and Martial as the two players he named, with the England striker touted as someone who “blew him away”.

Bailly told L’Equipe: “I knew a lot of great players in Manchester. But if I have to talk about everyone who has impressed me, we will never end this interview.

“There was incredible talent, both old and young. I was really blown away by someone like Marcus Rashford. Anthony Martial too.”

Both Rashford and Martial have improved under new coach Erik ten Hag and both have become key members of the team, although the French forward has struggled with injuries that have affected his playing time.

The duo had struggled to maintain consistent form over the past year, with Rashford making multiple appearances from the starting line-up and Martial being loaned to Sevilla last season, raising questions about his long-term future at the club.

Ronaldo was a notable admission from the defender as the five-time Ballon d’Or was not named.

The Portuguese forward was the club’s top scorer last season but has struggled for game time this season despite scoring his 700th goal of his club career against Everton.

This season, however, both have started to find the net, with Rashford scoring five goals and Martial scoring three times in all competitions this season.

Marseille’s deal with Man United includes a commitment to buy Bailly at the end of his loan period and the current expectation is his time in the Premier League coming to an end after a mixed spell at Old Trafford.

The defender helped the club to their Europa League and League Cup successes in 2017 but injuries marred his time in England.
