There was a scare for the Australia side on Wednesday after David Warner precipitously exited the warm-up game against England after a headbutt.
The 35-year-old was on the limit when Moeen Ali shoved the ball his way but as he closed in it became clear the veteran outfield player needed to pull off a stunning grab to sack the Englishman.
Warner fell backwards with the flight of the ball and got a hand but couldn’t collect it cleanly. In a last-ditch attempt to grab the ball, the batsman failed to prepare for contact and his head snapped back and landed on the turf.
He quickly left the field before medical help arrived. The former vice-captain was escorted back to the dressing rooms to undergo concussion tests.
Warner passed those tests and was cleared to continue, with Australia looking to chase England’s total to tie the series after losing the first game on Sunday.
