Chelsea to SNUB move for Cristiano Ronaldo with club ‘GONE COLD’ on potential deal for him

Chelsea will avoid a move for unsigned star Cristiano Ronaldo after the World Cup.

Blues owner Todd Boehly has long been an admirer of the 37-year-old and tried to land him at Stamford Bridge this summer amid his Manchester United transfer saga.

Ronaldo insisted Champions League football was one of the main reasons behind his desire to leave Old Trafford during the summer window, an opportunity a move to Chelsea could offer him.

After United announced on Tuesday that Ronaldo’s lucrative contract with the club had been terminated with immediate effect, speculation circulated as to where the Portugal captain will play his club football after the World Cup.

Boehly’s previous interest in the player, combined with reports that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is ready to do business with the club, has resulted in Chelsea being named the favorite among English sides to sign the star.

However, a report from The Sun has claimed that Chelsea are unlikely to play a role in the forward’s future now but that the situation could change.

“Chelsea has gone cold for him. But if Todd Boehly decided to change his mind, he would take a break. A source told SunSport.

Boehly’s ambition to sign Ronaldo after taking over the west London club earlier this year has been well documented.

The 49-year-old’s desire to sign the former Real Madrid star is believed to have caused friction between the American and then-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was unexpectedly sacked after poor form earlier this season and replaced by Brighton boss Graham Potter.

However, it is believed that, like his predecessor, Potter is also uninterested in signing the five-time Ballon d’Or winners despite his side having scored just two goals in their last five Premier League games.
