Brighton confirm the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as head coach

Brighton have confirmed the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach.

De Zerbi replaces Graham Potter, who was recently appointed Chelsea manager.

43-year-old De Zerbi was most recently coach of Shakhtar Donetsk.

Potter has received much praise for the work he has done at Brighton over three years, although his departure has left a huge void at the club.

However, Brighton hope de Zerbi can make an immediate impact.

A former player for various clubs including Napoli, he started his coaching career at Darfo Boario.

A stint at Foggia followed before taking over Palermo and later Benevento.

De Zerbi was Sassuolo’s manager for three years, guiding them to two consecutive eighth places in Serie A.

He won the Ukrainian Super Cup while at Shakhtar. Shakhtar were also top of the table but no title was awarded after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
