Ben Godfrey remains on course for Everton’s return next month after a broken leg

Everton defender Ben Godfrey’s return from a broken leg remains on schedule for next month’s restart of the Premier League season.

The 24-year-old was injured less than 10 minutes into the season opener in the home game against Chelsea, suffering a fracture of his right fibula which required surgery.

Godfrey has been getting in shape for the Under-21s, playing against Birmingham in Friday’s Premier League Cup draw.

“Ben Godfrey played 75 minutes, he managed 70 in the last game, I think he’ll be ready for 90 minutes next week,” U21 manager Paul Tait told evertonfc.com.

“Then we can hopefully hand him over to the first team fit, fresh and ready to go.”
