According to a report, Barcelona have made a sensational offer for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
Xavi’s side plan to continue their spending spree when the transfer window opens again in January and the Spain international is reportedly on the 42-year-old’s shopping list.
Asensio is on less than a year’s contract at Madrid and, according to Mundo Deportivo via The Sun, the 26-year-old could soon join his club’s bitter rivals.
Asensio was linked with a move from the Bernabeu in the summer but a move never materialized and he could leave for free next year.
He has regularly struggled for minutes under Carlo Ancelotti and was recently spotted on the bench venting his frustration at not being a substitute in last weekend’s Madrid-Mallorca game.
Barca, meanwhile, added the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde to their ranks over the summer as they attempted to improve after a disappointing few years struggling financially.
They plan to keep spending to return to the top of European football, although off the pitch problems remain.
The club are believed to be interested in Asensio because of his age, skill and tactical adaptability. They reportedly see him as a mature player with plenty of room to improve.
Asensio has scored 50 goals in 239 games since joining Madrid in 2014 but his future looks increasingly likely with interest from other European leagues as well.
