WATCH: Don Lemon proposes royal family reparations

CNN presenter Don Lemon suggested in an interview that the British Royal Family should pay reparations for colonialism, calling the issue “legitimate concerns.”

The video goes viral on Twitter. The comments came as the English people gathered to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen’s fortune was estimated by Fortune at $500 million, but the Royal Family at $28 billion.

“It’s an interesting discussion,” Lemon replied.

There were reactions to Lemon’s comment on the Twitter feed where the video was shared. Opinions were mixed. Some of those comments:

“Oops..he didn’t expect THAT answer…good for her..besides who decides who gets money and how much…”

“Yes, I am against reparations – I am against slavery and have never had a slave, of course, why do I have to pay?”

“You pay for a lot of things that have nothing to do with you. And then.”

“I would also like to talk about the Indians.”

“So by its misleading, simplistic, self-protective argument, no one is to blame for deaths born from the street-level heroin trade—not the government turning a blind eye, the cartel, the smuggler, the dealer—just the hill rancher who grows the poppy. She’s ridiculous.”

“The man politely asked a question, got an answer and politely acknowledged it. Is there some context I’m missing for so many people to label it as some sort of mega-property?

“Yes, you missed the context. Lemon tried to provoke her into an awkward and/or incriminating response, but she flipped the script with facts and put it back to him…and with no counter-arguments, he abruptly ended the discussion. That’s what happened. Look again.”
