The New York Attorney General is suing Donald Trump for fraud

Lawsuit alleges ‘numerous frauds and misrepresentations’ against former US president who has denied wrongdoing.

The New York State Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, accusing the former US President of improperly inflating his wealth to obtain millions of dollars in loans and other benefits.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in a New York state court in Manhattan, accused the Trump Organization of being involved in “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation” in the preparation of Trump’s annual financial reports from 2011 to 2021.

It also named the Trump Organization, former President Donald Trump Jr.’s sons and Eric Trump, and his daughter Ivanka Trump as defendants.

With the help of his children, “Trump has improperly inflated and emptied billions of dollars from his net worth in various ways to obtain and service loans, receive insurance benefits and pay lower taxes,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said on Twitter.

“In short, he lied to gain massive financial benefits.”

The Republican ex-president has denied any wrongdoing and has called James’ investigation into his business practices a politically motivated witch hunt. The Trump Organization has called James’ allegations “unfounded”.
