Lenny Henry supports our campaign to tackle the cost of living crisis

Our Christmas appeal to help people struggling with the cost of living crisis received a further boost today with a £300,000 donation from Amazon, bringing the total raised to more than £1.8m.

Lenny Henry, co-founder of Comic Relief, our appeal partner, supported our campaign and called on people to rally because “together we can make a difference”.

The comedian, who is one of Britain’s most loved personalities, said: “I’m incredibly proud that Comic Relief has been there from the beginning to support people when they need it most and I’m as proud of it as people are come together to make this support possible.

“The cost of living crisis is a time when the most vulnerable communities are being hit the hardest. No one should fear what this winter may bring for them and their family. But together we can change that, together we can make a difference.”

On the Breadline, our joint campaign with the sister title the evening standardwhich launched this week with Comic Relief and pledged £1million.

The money raised will be given in the form of grants to organizations helping disadvantaged people across the UK.

John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK Country Manager, said: “Your focus on grassroots organizations across the country who are witnessing the challenges many people are facing this winter is more important than ever.

“At Amazon, we want to use our size as a force for good in the communities where we operate.

“In addition to donating £300,000 to your On the Breadline appeal in partnership with Comic Relief, this year we are inviting Amazon customers to also support the cause and donate through our website, where 100 per cent of donations are also made directly get the complaint.”
