After revealing the latest track title from her upcoming 10th studio album, Taylor Swift made an impact on her fans’ vocabulary as Google searched for the definition of the word “vigilant” soaring on Thursday night.
The “All Too Well” singer has developed an off-brand new way to reveal the songs that will be on his new album, midnightwhich will be released on October 21. Through a series of staged TikToks she dubbed “Midnights Mayhem With Me,” Swift rolled the cage of golden lottery balls twice, pulling out numbered balls which she used to reveal song titles. from his album.
In a previous video, Swift revealed that the 13th track on midnight is called “Mastermind,” and on Thursday, she fired the number 8 bullet, telling fans that the eighth track from her upcoming album is called “Vigilante S**t.”
After the video was posted, there was a spike in Google searches for the definition of vigilante.
Vigilante, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, means “a member of a committee of volunteers organized to restrain and summarily punish crime” when they feel that law enforcement is otherwise inadequate.
Swift has always been something of a lyrical swordsman, so her latest reveal has fans wondering what kind of song they’ll get with “Vigilante S**t.”
“What do you think Vigilante S**t looks like? 🤔,” asked a Taylor Swift fan account known as Taylor Nation on Twitter.
“Please God help me what is she going to talk about on a track called vigilante shit I’m scared for my life,” user @folkloreamy said.
“Vigilante S**t is the most unexpected track title I’ve ever heard in my 15 years as a Swiftie,” user @cardigan_swift tweeted.
“I can’t even imagine what the songs called mastermind and vigilante s*** will be about, but more so, I’m SO intrigued by how they will tie into the album’s sleepless nights concept,” tweeted @ seeitinmymind.
Other fans on Thursday night weren’t as surprised by the track’s title as they were taken by Swift’s cat, Meredith, who made an appearance on TikTok.
The star gave a significant amount of clues to the midnight album after shockingly announcing the album at the end of his acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) last month, and also teased fans with the vinyl album cover.
“We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and tears. We stare at the walls and drink until they answer,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post announcing the album. “We writhe in our self-made cages and pray that we are not about to make a fatal mistake that will change our lives. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a travel through the terrors and have sweet dreams. The grounds we walk and the demons we face.”
Swift added, “To all of us who’ve been tossing and turning and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go get – hoping that maybe when the clock strikes twelve… we’ll meet.”
