Valerie Bertinelli happily announced this week that her divorce from Tom Vitale was finalized, six months after she filed for separation.
And now documents obtained by PEOPLE show the divorce was settled and a proposed judgment was filed on Tuesday. Both Bertinelli and Vitale, along with their respective attorneys, signed the 12-page document.
But as part of the couple’s settlement, the 62-year-old actress will be forced to pay Vitale $2.2 million “to fully, finally and fully settle and satisfy all claims between them.”
The couple joined their union in 2011 with an existing prenuptial agreement, the validity of which Vitale tried to challenge in June.
He was also asking for spousal support at this time, hoping to prevent Bertinelli from seeking support from him.
However, on Wednesday it was determined that neither Bertinelli nor Vitale will receive spousal support.
TMZ adds that Vitale must vacate the Malibu home he and the star once shared by the end of the year.
If he fails to do so, Vitale will have to pay rent starting January 1, 2023, with the agreed amount being “$50,000/month and/or $1,666/day.”
But if Bertinelli doesn’t pay him the $2.2 million on time, Vitale can stay at the house for each day she’s late.
Bertinelli was over the moon to tell her Twitter followers that she’s “officially fucking divorced” on Tuesday.
In an upbeat video shared to her account on Tuesday, an ecstatic Bertinelli revealed that she had just received a call from her attorney breaking the news.
“I’m at the airport to see Wolfie and my attorney just called,” she told fans in the video.
“The papers are all signed, they will be handed in soon, on 11/22/22 I am officially divorced! Happily divorced! God,” she added with a huge sigh of relief.
‘Finally. It’s finally over. Yes!’ She added. “11/22/22 second best day of my life,” she tweeted alongside the video.
The Touched By An Angel actress and Vitale married on New Year’s Day 2011 at their home in Malibu, California after dating for years.
The Hot In Cleveland actress filed for split from Vitale in November 2021, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In May 2022, she filed for divorce.
Bertinelli and Vitale’s split wasn’t easy as the two fought over money and their marriage contract.
In her book Enough Already: Learning to Love As I Am Today, Bertinelli described her departure from Vitale as slow and painful.
“We strayed from the interests that made us a couple and realized that those differences can’t be fixed,” she said.
“He’s a good man going through many of the same issues I’ve faced: What can he do to bring meaning and purpose to his life?
“Where can he find joy? What is it burning for? What did he learn? And what will he do differently in the future? The paths we thought we were on changed.”
Bertinelli was previously married to the late rock legend Eddie Van Halen between 1981 and 2007 and they are parents to musician son Wolfgang Van Halen, 31.
The legendary guitarist passed away in October 2020 at the age of 65 after suffering a stroke and a long battle with cancer.
