RHOBH Star Reveals Cancer Diagnosis: ‘I Called This Morning’

A “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star has revealed her recent cancer diagnosis.

On October 11, 2022, Teddi Mellencamp revealed she had been diagnosed with stage II melanoma in a candid post she shared on Instagram.

“Melanoma awareness update. Despite my fear, I listened to the doctors and went last week for my 3 month skin check since my last melanoma. They said I had another abnormal spot near my last one, so they did a biopsy. I got the call this morning: Stage 2 melanoma,” she wrote.

The mother of three said she will meet with an oncologist on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

Here’s what you need to know:

Mellencamp shared a photo of a patch covering some of the skin on the back of her shoulder where a biopsy was done.

“This is all pending some additional tests and biopsies from other spots nearby taken today,” explains Mellencamp. She encouraged her followers to go in and get their skin checks done when their doctors recommend it.

“I wanted so badly to blow this off. ‘What can happen in 3 months?’ I thought. Apparently a lot. I keep sharing this journey because I was a teen in the 90’s and put baby oil and iodine on my skin to tan it. Never wear sunscreen or have my moles checked until I was 40 years old. This is such a wake-up call for me, and I hope for all of you, to love and protect the skin you’re in,” she added.

According to the American Cancer Society, stage II melanoma requires surgery and may require additional treatment based on testing. Sometimes a patient may have lymph nodes, so a lymph node biopsy may be needed. In some cases, doctors may prescribe a drug called “pembrolizumab” that “may help reduce the risk of the cancer coming back.”

Unfortunately, this is Mellencamp’s second bout with melanoma. The former reality star was diagnosed in March after a visit to the dermatologist.

“On my way to work, that’s why I got completely ripped off. However, this is a reminder to have your annual skin checks. I had avoided mine for a long time due to my own fear but when @kylerichards18 saw my back and it had changed color again she immediately took me to the doctor who within minutes said it looked like melanoma and major removal did, Mellencamp shared on March 17, 2022.

She went on to say she was trying to stay positive and keep herself busy while waiting for the results.

A few days later, Mellencamp provided fans with an update.

“I have my results back and the good news is melanoma in situ, which means the cancer cells were in that area of my skin and hadn’t spread deeper! I feel blessed and relieved, but also grateful to have diligent friends and doctors looking after me,” she wrote in another Instagram post. She said she had to go for checkups for three months, but she seemed to be in a good mood nonetheless.
