On February 25, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, number 31 Seth Curry and number 25 Ben Simmons watch as the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Dallas Mavericks at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Brooklyn Nets vs. Philadelphia 76ers game seemingly drew the attention of the entire NBA universe. There were still many eyes on the game, although some of its appeal has waned as a result of the injury spate in the Sixers roster. Expectations for the Sixers have dropped because they won’t be playing alongside Joel Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey. The understaffed Sixers were still brave and prevailed 115:16. Ben Simmons’ return to Philadelphia has garnered most of the attention due to his messy exit from the team. However, Seth Curry is another former Sixer who is better remembered.
Before the game, Curry met with the media and recalled his time with the Sixers with admiration. “Played good basketball most of the time,” he said. We had a fantastic team. We played a lot of excellent basketball in both the regular season and the playoffs. Every night the fans bring it and are unique. According to SixersWire’s Ky Carlin, “I’ve always enjoyed my time here and that’s one of the things I miss about playing here.
Curry’s time with the Sixers
After taking ownership of the Sixers organization, Daryl Morey traded Josh Richardson and the 36th overall pick in the 2020 draft for Curry. The sharpshooter appeared in 102 games for the Sixers, where he enjoyed some of his best seasons.
During that time, he played 31.4 minutes per game, averaging 13.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds. These were all professional highlights for the Duke product. Curry attempted 5.2 long-range shots per game and made 42.6% of them, which is also a respectable rate. Because of the way he opened up the floor, he and Embiid made for an exciting two-man partnership.
Curry also revealed he is still in communication with the Sixers star. I happen to speak to them, he said. Joel occasionally FaceTimes me. I’m only talking about Joel, but yeah. I still get on well with all the guys here. According to SixersWire’s Ky Carlin, “I’ve had some good times, some good battles together, and I’m always for these guys to do well.
Curry’s impact on the networks
The 32-year-old hasn’t had it easy in Brooklyn so far. During his time with the team he has struggled with numerous ankle injuries and has been in and out of the line-up. He’s only made 27 total appearances while playing for Brooklyn and is still trying to find a foothold. He averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game during that tenure.
Curry will always be appreciated for the time he spent with the Sixers, despite the fact that it was unfortunate he was part of the deal used to acquire Harden. Additionally, Doc Rivers discussed how challenging the election was given the criticism his daughter leveled at him when the rumors of the deal first surfaced. As of 2019, Curry has been married to Rivers’ daughter, Callie.
During the competition, Curry received a much warmer welcome than Simmons. He contributed 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals, a block and 24 minutes of game time. The guard, who is 6’1″ tall, made 2 of 6 three-point attempts. Curry, unlike Simmons, received a warm welcome from Philadelphia supporters, who rightly praised him for his time with the team.
