“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” Raq may have wanted Crown’s body found

Book of Power III: Raise Kanan is set in the 1990s and chronicles the teenage years of Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis). His mother, drug kingpin Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), runs a drug empire with his uncles Marvin (London Brown) and Lou Lou (Malcolm Mays).

As the season comes to a close, things have gone wrong for the Thomas family and their organization. The body of Lou’s former business partner, Crown Camacho (Quincy Brown), was also discovered, but that may have been intentional.

Since Season 1, after the hit he made on D-Wiz (Nile Bullock), Lou has distanced himself from the family business. He has repeatedly expressed to Raq that he no longer wants to be involved in the gruesome aspects of the drug game.

However, in episode 206, “A Business, Man”, Raq took her younger brother to the brink. She revealed that his business partner Crown approached her to get him removed from his record company. Knowing that, and also knowing that Crown had slept with his ex-girlfriend while they were still together, Lou was devastated.

At the end of the episode, he strangled Crown to death in the studio.

At the end of Episode 208, “A House Is No Home”, Crown’s body floated to the surface of the river and was discovered by detectives. Since this certainly isn’t the first time Lou Lou has dumped a body, fans wouldn’t just blame it on carelessness. In fact, he and Raq appear to have wanted the body found.

All season, Raq has been studying and observing how Cartier’s (Omar J. Dorsey) businesses work, even interfering in his affairs himself. The teaser trailer for Episode 209 “Anti-Trust” shows Cartier offering to buy into Raq’s organization, which would give the Thomas family access to Cartier’s network and resources.

It seems this is something Raq wants. You and Lou could use Crown’s body to frame Cartier for the producer’s death. This would give them complete control of Cartier’s businesses and get him out of Lou’s record company. One thing the couple may not have considered is that Zisa (Paulina Singer), Lou’s artist, witnessed him kill Crown.

Even if Raq can fight back the mob and take over Cartier’s DC and Baltimore businesses, she’ll still take a big loss this season. Her relationship with Kanan seems to be at a point of no return. He knows his biological father is Detective Malcolm Howard (Omar Epps) and although she has promised not to keep any more secrets, Raq has insisted on lying to her son.

It seems Raq’s inability to face her past and examine the whole of who she was as a teenager will ruin her bond with her son. She may still have time to change course, but with her focus on the Italians and Cartier, Kanan continues to be pushed to Detective Howard.

Hopefully Raq will choose to do the right thing.
