They’ve both been through relationship troubles recently.
So it’s no wonder that Julie Bishop has teamed up with her colleague Ellie Aitken.
The pair were photographed together at a glamorous event held over the weekend for Sydney Dance Company.
In a post shared by the high-profile socialite, the couple were seen dressed to the nines while Ms Bishop, 66, put her arm around Ms Aitken’s shoulders.
Ms Aitken, 42, dazzled in a black long-sleeved mini dress, which featured black patent heels and a gorgeous jewel chain.
“What a wonderful night supporting the phenomenal @sydneydanceco,” Ms Aitken captioned the photo.
For her part, Ms Bishop also shared intimate moments from the event.
The former Australian Foreign Secretary posted multiple snaps from the red carpet, looking dapper in a gray fitted dress and pearl earrings.
“Sparkling evening with the best of Australian contemporary dance @sydneydanceco,” she wrote.
The couple’s sighting comes after Ms Aitken found herself at the center of a high-profile breakup in December after it emerged her husband, 20, was having an affair with her best friend.
Fund manager Charlie Aitken, 48, announced he had split from Ms Aitken and moved on with her younger friend Hollie Nasser.
The move sent shock waves through close-knit circles in the eastern suburbs, especially as Ms Nasser, 36, was also married to Mr Aitken’s business partner Christopher Nasser.
“The truth is that despite the support of friends and family, I have not coped well with the deeply hurtful lies, gossip and innuendos that have surrounded the breakdown of my relationship,” Ms Aitken said in a statement in early December.
She announced that she would be taking a break from social media and public life while she and her family adjusted to her estranged husband’s breakup and new relationship.
“I had tried to put on a brave face and tried to control my emotions and well-being, even though I had no control over the reasons for my grief,” she added.
Ms Aitken later shared a text message she received from Ms Nasser on Instagram in which her former friend accused her of “playing the victim” and accused her of “ruining her marriage”.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, a longtime friend revealed: “Ellie isn’t coping well at all. She’s broken. Her whole life just collapsed around her.’
According to The Daily Telegraph, Ms Aitken is in a much better place now and has even been spending time with her ex-husband for the sake of their two children.
“People really admire how kind she was during this ordeal. She’s doing a lot better and definitely has her groove back,” a source said.
Ms. Nasser has since parted ways with the investment banker.
Meanwhile, Ms Bishop’s ex-lover David Panton was dating from 2014 until July of this year when Mr Panton, a property developer, abruptly broke up with Ms Bishop over dinner at a restaurant in Circular Quay.
The jet set couple had attended a private engagement to Prince Charles, now King Charles III, in London just a week earlier.
The former Liberal Party deputy leader was reportedly caught off guard by the split, and Mr Panton was later romantically linked to a woman from the Northern Beaches.
Mr Panton was sometimes described as Mrs Bishop’s “handbag” during their eight years together was regularly photographed smiling by her side at scintillating social gatherings while barely saying a word in public.
