MAFS: Martha Kalifatidis reveals how a serious illness is affecting her pregnancy

Martha Kalifatidis of Married At First Sight has shared a candid look at how her battle with an acute form of morning sickness has affected her pregnancy.

The 34-year-old, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Michael Brunelli, said on Sunday that being diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum changed everything.

She told the Daily Telegraph her symptoms had manifested themselves in numerous painful ways.

“It’s like you have gastro, you’re hung over and on a boat. It’s not funny at all,” she said.

She explained that she was diagnosed just a month into her pregnancy, forcing her and Michael to cut short their European vacation.

“I was stuck abroad, severely dehydrated and needed regular fluids,” she said.

Michael echoed her feelings, admitting “it was hard to watch her go from that amazing overseas trip to being 24 hours bedridden”.

The couple announced earlier this month that they are expecting their first child together.

They explained the reason for Martha’s extended absence from social media is that she was ill with excessive nausea and vomiting.

She had been missing offline for several weeks, raising concerns about her well-being.

The couple explained that they had to wait until she was feeling better and had reached a safe point in her pregnancy before sharing their news.

“We wanted to explain our situation and make a little announcement. Martha is pregnant,” Michael said in an Instagram video.
