Nadia Sawalha broke down in tears on Thursday’s Loose Women as she revealed she has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
ADHD is a mental illness with symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior.
Nadia, 58, broke down in tears after viewers on the show were shown a clip of her ADHD journey.
About her assessment, she said: “There are so many things in my life that I want to forgive myself after the diagnosis.
“When you scratch the surface there is low self-esteem, but I’m doing an amazing job of holding myself up. What I’m really struggling with is not being able to drive.
“Compulsive eating is a big part of ADHD, you have an addictive personality. People with ADHA have a shorter lifespan.’
But Nadia said she’s glad she’s getting the right help now, saying: “I’ve started the medication and I’m feeling so much better now.”
Her words come after Christine McGuinness opened up about her own ADHD diagnosis, which she received just months after revealing she was “up on the spectrum” for autism.
The 34-year-old, who is estranged from her comedian husband Paddy McGuinness, 48, said she found her diagnosis liberating as it put her on the path to better understanding herself.
She told the Daily Star on Sunday at the time: “I have now been diagnosed with ADHD, autism and dyspraxia.
“Knowledge is the key. Anyone who knows the situation can deal with it. Getting a diagnosis really opened up my life.
“It gave me so much more opportunity to understand why I was the way I was.”
Christine’s three children, twins Penelope and Leo, eight, and Felicity, five, have all been diagnosed with autism.
