We’re sorry, Gilmore Girls Fans, not even Lauren Graham knows the father of Rory’s baby. However, like many of us, she has her own theory. The Lorelai Gilmore actress addresses the mystery surrounding her daughter’s pregnancy on screen in her latest book. Have I told you?: Stories I don’t want to forget.
In the final scene of Netflix Gilmore Girls Revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) turned to her mother, Lorelai, and began the show’s infamous last four words: “Mom?” “Yes?” “I’m pregnant.” And thus, Gilmore Girls ended for good, forever leaving fans wondering about the father of Rory’s baby.
Given the show’s timeline, one can conclude that the father is likely Rory’s ex-fiancé, Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry), with whom she had a final night in the same episode in which she revealed her pregnancy. However, fans have shared other theories about the father. He could be Paul (Jack Carpenter), Rory’s often-forgotten boyfriend, or Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia), another of Rory’s favorite exes. The dad might even be the guy in the Wookiee suit who had a one-night stand with Rory that spring.
At the end of the day, the father of Rory’s baby is said to be ambiguous, since Gilmore Girls Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino once revealed it.
“People were always focused on Rory in relation to Team Jess or Team Dean [Jared Padalecki]. This isn’t about Team Jess or Team Dean; this is about Rory,” she told Vogue in 2016. “This moment that she shares with Lorelai, it’s not about who the father is, it’s about, ‘Holy shit, look at how my life is will look like now.’”
In the years since the revival, many have Gilmore Girls Stars have come forward with their own thoughts on the father of Rory’s baby. The latest to do so is Lauren Graham herself. Im did i tell you that alreadyGraham shares stories from her personal life and career, including Gilmore Girls. One chapter mentions the big baby daddy debate.
“No, Amy didn’t tell me about it, but if I had to guess, I think Logan is the father, although it could also be funny if it’s the Wookiee,” Graham writes.
Then Graham shares a heartwarming theory about the gender of Rory’s baby and her name.
“But no matter who the father is, I think the baby is a girl whose name is a different permutation of Lorelai; I’ll go with Lola,” she adds.

Graham’s theory would certainly fit into the closing circle theme A year in life. Like Lorelai, Rory has a surprise pregnancy that could result in her becoming a single mother to a daughter. If the father were Logan, he would probably be like Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe), Rory’s own father, who was absent for much of her childhood. As a result, Rory’s daughter was able to grow up with a very close relationship with her mother, just as Rory did with Lorelai.
Additionally, the name “Lorelai” has become a tradition for daughters in the Gilmore family – Rory’s full name is Lorelai, named after her mother, who was named after Lorelai’s grandmother. It would only make sense for Rory to continue this tradition.
