Drake posts DM receipts after music critic posts fakes

Drake chose to go public with his personal beef by sharing screenshots of direct messages he sent to a high-profile music critic.

Critic Anthony Fantano is arguably YouTube’s most popular music analyst, with his channel ‘The Needle Drop’ boasting some 2.63 million subscribers. Now, months after Fantano described Drake’s latest album as “not good,” the famed singer-rapper-actor has chosen to turn the tables and give Fantano his own low mark.

The drama began on Thursday when Fantano posted a video on YouTube claiming that Drake had “slipped into [his] DMs.” But instead of revealing what the singer had actually sent, Fantano, who is vegan, showed fake messages describing the vegan cookie recipe.

Drake didn’t have it.

After Fantano’s video aired, Drake attempted to set the record straight about what he actually said. He posted screenshots of the messages on his Instagram Story that he sent Fantano, and they weren’t very nice.

Drake opened the verbal takedown by posting his own note from the music critic.

“Your existence is a slight 1,” Drake wrote to Fantano, “And the 1 is because you are alive.”

“And because you kind of married a black girl,” the singer continued. “I feel light to decent 1 on your existence.”

If Fantano was trying to trick Drake into posting the real messages, his plan certainly worked. When Drake posted the receipts to his Instagram Story, Fantano appeared to celebrate.

“This female dog shared the salty ass DM to over 100 million people”, hey wrote in a tweetwhich included an image of a huge “W”, which likely stood for “win”.

One Twitter user seemed to think it was all part of Fantano’s master plan.

“So Fantano pushed Drake to show real DMs that were more embarrassing than the fake ones? He should have stuck to the recipe,” said the user wrote.

Fantano mostly seemed to accept Drake’s dissent, even changing his name on Twitter to “anthony ‘light 1’ fantano.” He also shared his less than favorable review of Drake’s latest record, Honestly, too bad, reiterating in a tweet that it was “NOT GOOD”.

Still, some on social media handed the “W” over to Drake. One person wrote to Fantano on Twitter that the singer’s note was “hilarious.”

“My rating system lives without rent in its head”, Fantano wrote in reply.

Other onlookers are also laughing at the ordeal, saying they think Drake committed massive self-ownership. A YouTuber who commented on Fantano’s ‘vegan cookie recipe’ video wrote, “The fact that Drake actually dm’d it and we had no idea what he actually said until what Drake himself reports the truth (which made him awful) is hilarious.”

Pleasemynews contacted Drake and Fantano for additional comment.
