Some fans of “Dancing With the Stars” are already annoyed by the judges in Season 31 of the show after the premiere episode, which aired on Monday, September 19, 2022.
New professional dancer Koko Iwasaki and her partner, Vinny Guadagnino, were awarded scores of fours and fives after their dance, putting them at the bottom of the leaderboard, and some fans thought they were judged harder than other couples. Some viewers also thought
However, some fans think the judges were unnecessarily harsh, handing out multiple fours and fives throughout the night.
To compare the scores from the Season 30 premiere last year, only one couple got a score below 20. This year, there were two scores below 20 with multiple couples scoring 21 and 20.
During the premiere, fans took to Instagram to say they thought the judges were stricter than necessary during the season’s premiere.
“Ugh the judges are way too strict on Vinny,” one person tweeted.
Another wrote“My summary from @officialdwts… the judges were ridiculously hard on the first night’s dances and also stupid enough to send someone home the first night. Jason had room for improvement, but wasn’t that bad. Tyra is also still a terrible host.
“I hate how tough the judges are in week 1 because half of these people have no dance experience of course they won’t be good #DWTS,” read a tweet.
Another person wrote“The only time in years I watch and vote #DWTS and @PetaMurgatroyd goes home week 1??? Plus the judges were harsh for no reason, it’s week one and some people have never danced in their lives. Damn. Loosen them up a bit.”
Some fans generally found the judges harsh, not just when it came to Iwasaki and Guadagnino.
A person wrote“They were a little hard on Jessie James, who cares!!! Girl was a star tonight for her first dance.. #dwts.”
“Sorry the jury was a little hard on you @JasonLewis,” one person tweeted. “It’s only your first dance. You can get better. #DWTS.”
Lewis and his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, were at the bottom of the standings in the eliminations and were sent home at the end of the premiere.
Since Iwasaki and Guadagnino didn’t finish in the bottom two despite a low score from the judges, that means they have a large army of people who support them. They will perform during the second week of the competition, themed Elvis Night.
Guadagnino and Iwasaki performed a salsa on Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó”. Though the two struggled a bit during the performance, got off the beat at one point, and were out of sync with each other, the judges seemed to be rougher with them than with other couples fans thought were just as bad.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, the former Guadagnino co-star, took to Twitter to say she felt he deserved a higher score.
“I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE JUDGES!!! Vinny did a great job, everyone voted! #dwts,” she wrote on Twitter.
