‘Dancing With the Stars’ contestant confused by judges’ scores

Season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars” is in full swing and the remaining 12 couples are recovering after Disney+ Week. Over the next week, they will be instructed to learn several dances.

During Disney+ Night, actor Trevor Donovan and his professional dance partner Emma Slater danced the samba to “Life Is a Highway” from the movie cars, and they didn’t get much praise from the judges.

They ended up scoring 7s across the board earning a total of 28 out of 40 points. They finished in the bottom two but were saved by the judges.

After the episode, Donovan, 44, spoke to Us Weekly about whether or not he was confused or shocked by the ratings and critiques. During the episode, Hough told Donovan that he thought the actor was too much in his head and not in the moment.

“To be honest, yes. Because I felt pretty loose,” he told the outlet. “I don’t know. I didn’t feel like I was being stubborn at all, but I will take their criticism to heart and come back to it next week.”

During the episode, Len Goodman mentioned that he didn’t like the dance.

However, Slater shared how the pair will be using it to push them through the next episode.

“I feel like we’re going to get really motivated,” Slater told Us Weekly. “Sometimes I think it helps people at home think, ‘Oh god, I don’t want them to be in danger.’ Maybe they will vote a little more next week.”

She said they will use the judges’ criticism to work on their performances.

“But it’s very motivating when that happens,” Slater said. “It’s discouraging, but at the same time you have something to prove.”

During his pre-recorded package on “Dancing With the Stars” Disney+ Night, Donovan shared that he was dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in the past week.

Several times throughout the pack, he was shown shivering in pain, but wanted to get through. Donovan’s shoulder was also taped as he went into the episode, as can be seen from his Instagram posts from the past few days.

Candace Cameron Bure, a colleague of Donovan’s on the Hallmark channel and who also participated in “Dancing With the Stars,” shared on Instagram that she disagreed with the judges.

“Trevor, I totally disagreed with the jury,” Bure said. “Because this was one of my favorite Trevor and Emma dances and they’re so cute together. His samba was fantastic.”

She added: ‘I didn’t understand Len’s comment about the knees and no bouncing. I was like, it was so good! I loved it. And I loved the little booty shakes. It was so much fun. And I thought the form was really good, so I’m just happy Trevor, you’re still there, but you didn’t deserve to be in the bottom two, so that was fake.”

Donovan re-shared the story, adding “100% facts.”

“Dancing With the Stars” airs Mondays at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on Disney+.
