Coleen Nolan has admitted she thinks her ex-husband Shane Richie’s new storyline in EastEnders is “ridiculous”.
The 57-year-old TV presenter wasn’t shy about giving her opinion on Shane’s character Alfie Moon (Shane), who has returned to Walford, where he has vowed to win back Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) before her marriage to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
Speaking on Tuesday’s Loose Women, Coleen was asked by colleague Katie Piper, “Don’t you think Kat and Phil would make a great couple?”
Coleen replied, “No! No, sorry, it’s ridiculous. You wouldn’t choose Phil over Alfie. Absolutely [speaking from past experience]. Kat and Alfie just go together; They’ve been together for years. Phil is just always miserable.’
“Well he isn’t anymore, now he has Kat,” Katie said, causing Coleen to laugh.
Shane was last with EastEnders in 2019 and has now returned as he tries to win Kat back from Phil.
On returning to the soap, Shane said: “It is an absolute honor and privilege to be reclaimed to my Albert Square TV home.
“I’m looking forward to meeting some old castmates and meeting new ones.
“New Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw was instrumental in bringing Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can barely wait for it.”
Executive producer Chris added, “Shane Richie has created one of the most iconic, loveable and memorable characters on soap opera and welcoming him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure.”
Shane also spoke about his return in an interview with The Mirror, saying: “We sat down and he said, ‘Listen, I have this idea to bring Alfie back,’ and I said really?
“Then he sold it to me and said we want the old Alfie because there have all been very different Alfies over the years and my favorite Alfie is from 2002 to 2005, check it out. This is the Alfie we got back.”
He continued: “So Chris [Clenshaw] was so pivotal in telling me the long-term story with Alfie, and it’s old Alfie.
