It was recently reported that parts of Bild TV are to be demolished. In particular, it was about live broadcasts. This is now confirmed.
The linear TV channel Bild TV will broadcast less live in the future. “We will change the Bild program at the end of the year and will no longer continue the ‘Bild Live’ and ‘Bild am Abend’ programs,” a spokesman for the media company Axel Springer said on Thursday. As a result, 80 jobs will be cut.
The “Spiegel” and the sector service “Medieninsider” had previously reported on the change of plans and the consequences. The weekday news series “Bild Live” served as the station’s focus. Meanwhile, Springer had even expanded it.
The spokesperson continued: “Bild TV (…) will focus on documentaries and reports from WeltN24’s program portfolio. But we will continue to be live with our sports programs on Sundays and the latest news for big current situations” . Talk formats like “Quarter to Eight”, “Reif ist live” or “The Right Questions” should continue to be seen on both linear TV and YouTube. The “Bild Live” editorial team will no longer continue in its current form and the temporary positions will expire.
Bild TV has been around since August 2021, it was a flagship project of the fired editor-in-chief of “Bild” Julian Reichelt. However, valuations remained well below expectations. Axel Springer’s video strategy now wants to focus more on digital. Subsequently, “competence in the digital moving image will be expanded directly in the ‘Bild’ editorial office for ‘bild.de’ and for social media. We plan to create a few dozen jobs here.”
