Nissan sells its Russian operations

At the start of the Russian war of aggression, Nissan stopped its production. The automaker completely withdraws from the market.

Nissan sells its Russian business to the state auto institute NAMI for the symbolic price of one euro. Nissan has to accept a loss of around 100 billion yen (around 708 million euros), the Japanese group announced on Tuesday. The business sold also includes manufacturing and research facilities in St. Petersburg and the sales and marketing center in Moscow, according to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Furthermore, the automaker could buy back its business within six years. Nissan stopped production in March after Russia invaded Ukraine and therefore decided to withdraw from the market altogether. Nissan’s main investor, Renault, sold its stake in Russian automaker Avtovaz for one ruble in May.
